Waterproofing. to AS 3740--2004
As the bathroom is the primary wet area in the home waterproofing is carried out to showers and bath areas before installation of any wall and floor tiling is done but only after the walls and floors have been thoroughly prepared. If you merely tile these areas later on water might penetrate though walls into timber framing, plaster and carpets causing hundreds of dollars of damage.
Finally ensure that the paint that you choose for the bathroom is able to handle the moisture levels, semi-gloss or gloss paints are a good choice, with an anti¬mould built into paint.
